Dr. Borts applies ambient ionization mass spectrometry (e.g., coated blade spray and paper spray) to achieve rapid, direct, and cost-effective analysis of diverse contaminants with minimal sample preparation. His methods detect drugs, pesticides, toxins, and PFAS in matrices ranging from water and sewage to biofluids and tissues. This approach is highly relevant to HYDRO’s goal of developing point-of-need technologies that require reliable, real-time contaminant detection.
