Dr. Gomes is an expert in nanoscale material design and fabrication. Her group develops biosensors and delivery systems for a wide range of applications, including environmental sustainability (food and agricultural systems) and human health. Her group has developed a new class of biosensors for real-time detection of target analytes (allergens, pathogens, ions, etc.) that has the potential to be deployed in the field and that avoids the need of sample preparation currently required in complex samples, such as food products, surface water, soil, and body fluids.
